CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Rose-Hulman women's volleyball team suffered two losses on Saturday to wrap up the Rosalie Resch Invitational. The team lost to Concordia Wisconsin in a close match with a score of 3-2, and fell short against Edgewood with a score of 3-0. This drops the team to 1-3 overall this season.
In the first match of the day against Concordia Wisconsin, the Fightin' Engineers had three players reach double figures in kills.
Emma Blanton led the team with a double-double, recording 17 kills and 17 digs.
Greta Carlson and
Keira Ohse were the other productive hitters, finishing with 13 and 10 kills.
Kennedy Otwell was the top defender with a team-high 18 digs in the match.
Shae Clements also made an impact with 13 digs.
The Fightin' Engineers pulled off a huge comeback in the first set. After trailing 24-20, Rose put together a 5-0 run to take the lead at 25-24. The team finished strong to win the set 27-25. Rose-Hulman dominated in the second set, jumping to a 2-0 lead after ending the set on a 7-1 run to defeat the Falcons 25-14.
Then Concordia Wisconsin mounted a comeback, winning three straight sets to defeat the Fightin' Engineers with scores of 25-19, 25-22, and 15-8.
Rose-Hulman wrapped up the tournament with a match against Edgewood. The Fightin' Engineer suffered a loss to the Eagles in straight sets with scores of 25-13, 25-17, 25-23.
Blanton led the team in the second match of the day with nine kills. Ohse and Carlson followed her with six kills each. Clements was the defensive standout with a team-high eight digs.
Rose-Hulman volleyball will return to action on the road at the Wisconsin Lutheran Invitational. The team will face Wisconsin Lutheran on Friday, September 11, at 6 PM CT, then battle Wisconsin-Platteville and Millikin on Saturday, September 12, at 10 AM CT and 12 PM CT.
