POMONA, CALIF. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology volleyball squad finished its trip to Southern California with two tough losses Saturday, as the Engineers fell to host Pomona-Pitzer and No. 3 Cal Lutheran.
Rose-Hulman (11-16) dropped its first match in a five-set battle with Pomona-Pitzer, 25-13, 18-25, 20-25, 25-20, 15-7.
Senior Casey Levitt, who hails from nearby Thousand Oaks, Calif. (Westlake) led Rose-Hulman with 14 kills, 14 digs and three service aces. RHIT teammates Sarah Jensen (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) and Morgan Dreyer (Batesville, Ind./Batesville) had 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
Dreyer tallied 30 assists and Jensen had 22 from the setter position, while Kate Dangel (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington) had the top mark in digs with 24.
No. 3 Cal Lutheran (20-1) showed its strength in the nightcap, defeating the Engineers in three sets, 25-14, 25-18 and 25-23.
Jensen led RHIT with nine kills and Levitt added eight. Dreyer had 15 assists and Jensen added 11, while Dangel recorded nine digs to lead the Engineers in the loss.
Rose-Hulman returns to play Wednesday, when the Engineers travel to Earlham College for a 7:30 p.m. Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference match.
