RICHMOND, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology rallied from a slow start to top Earlham College in four sets to earn a key Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference volleyball victory on Wednesday night.
Earlham won the opening set 25-17, before Rose-Hulman rallied to win 25-7, 25-18 and 25-19 to close the match in four sets.
Senior Casey Levitt (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake), freshman Morgan Dreyer (Batesville, Ind.) and senior Catherine Fiutem (Harrison, Ohio/Oldenburg Academy) led a balanced offensive attack with eight kills each.
Dreyer had a team-high 18 assists, with sophomore Sarah Jensen (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) contributing 15 assists, three service aces and 12 digs to the effort. Senior Kate Dangel (Upper Arlington, Ohio) led the defense with 23 digs, and Levitt contributed 13 digs and a team-high four service aces.
Freshman Emily McLendon (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay) had one solo block and two assists, with Fiutem adding three block assists to the performance.
Rose-Hulman improved to 12-16 overall and 3-3 in conference play, while Earlham dropped to 4-22 and 0-6 in league matches. The Fightin' Engineers host Defiance on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Illinois Wesleyan at 5 p.m.
