TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology opens the 2014-15 men's basketball home season with a matchup against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Anderson University on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
The Fightin' Engineers (1-3) picked up their first victory of the season by a 57-47 margin on Sunday at Wabash College. Junior Matt Loesing scored 14 points and junior Jimmy Miller added 11 to lead the Rose-Hulman offensive attack.
The victory also marked the first NCAA head coaching win for Rusty Loyd, in his first year as Rose-Hulman coach after serving as the lead assistant for five years.
Junior Corey Povaleri leads the Rose-Hulman scoring attack with an average of 12.8 points per game. Loesing stands second on the team at 9.3 points per game, followed by Miller (8.5 ppg) and junior Tyler Duffy (8.3 ppg).
Anderson also enters the matchup with a 1-3 record after defeating Illinois Tech in its most recent game. Senior Max Mollaun is one of the top scorers in the conference at 18.3 points per game, with Justin Jordan (10.5) and Nathan Gross (10.3) also scoring in double figures.
Both teams have faced competitive schedules so far, with both teams have a loss to nationally ranked DePauw. Rose-Hulman's opponents have a combined record of 13-4 this season, while Anderson has a loss to two nationally ranked teams this season (Calvin).
