TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology looks for its fourth consecutive men's basketball victory when the Fightin' Engineers host Blackburn College on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
Rose-Hulman has improved to 4-4 overall after wins over Transylvania (67-66), Millikin (69-60) and Manchester (55-54). The Transylvania win featured a buzzer beating layup by Michael Hallstein, while the Manchester victory included a basket by Matt Loesing with 1.2 seconds remaining.
The balanced Rose-Hulman scoring attack is led by senior Corey Povaleri at 12.0 points per game. Junior Tyler Duffy also averages double figures at 11.3 points per contest, while Loesing relied on a career-high 19-point effort at Manchester to improve his scoring output to 9.9 points per game.
The starting lineup also includes junior Jimmy Miller (7.8 ppg, 6.5 rpg) and sophomore Wade Stallings (4.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg). Sophomore Collin Wojcik leads the reserves in scoring at 7.9 points per contest.
Blackburn stands 2-7 on the season after falling 89-73 at Knox College on Tuesday night. The Beavers have defeated Illinois Tech (81-68) and Iowa Wesleyan (57-56) on the season to stand 1-2 in conference play. Chris J. Davis leads the Beavers in scoring at 16.1 points per game, followed by Chris A. Davis (10.8) and Tommy Ulinski (10.1).
Rose-Hulman leads the all-time series with Blackburn 62-14 and has won eight consecutive games in the series. The two teams will meet for the first time since 2009. After Thursday night's game, Rose-Hulman returns to action at Illinois Tech on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Central Time (5:30 p.m. Indiana time).
