TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology hosts Anderson University in the Fightin' Engineer Homecoming Game at Cook Stadium on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Rose-Hulman received votes in a national NCAA Division III football poll for the first time since 1987, in results released this week by the American Football Coaches Association. The Fightin' Engineers received 11 points for their first national poll points since the 1987 team started the season with a 9-0 record.
Rose-Hulman stands 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in HCAC play entering Saturday's game. Highlights of the season include a 74-68 triple overtime victory over Illinois College and a 48-42 double overtime win over Hanover College.
The Fightin' Engineers currently rank No. 1 nationally in total offense (665.0 ypg), passing offense (484.7 ypg) and red zone scoring efficiency (100%). Sophomore Austin Swenson leads the nation in completions per game (37.0), passing yards per game (484.7), total offense (504.3 ypg) and points responsible for per game (34.7). Sophomore Alec Fisher stands No. 2 nationally in receptions per game (10.0) and No. 3 in receiving yards per game (151.0).
Among all three NCAA Divisions, Rose-Hulman ranks second in passing offense at 484.7 yards per game, behind only New Mexico Highlands (489.0 ypg).
Defensively, Rose-Hulman junior Chris Sander leads the HCAC in tackles (12.0/game) and sophomore Kevin Nowak holds the conference lead in pass defensed (2.3/game).
Anderson has a 1-3 record and a 1-1 mark in HCAC play after snapping a 29-game losing streak dating to the 2011 season. The Ravens defeated Earlham 45-15 last week, led by the rushing duo of James Harris (107 yards) and Joshua Adkins (94). Quarterback Brady Cavinee tossed three touchdown passes and finished 10-19 through the air for 138 yards, and Mason Davis led the team in tackles defensively.
After Saturday's Homecoming Game, Rose-Hulman returns home to face Bluffton University on Oct. 11 at 1:30 p.m.
