TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology hits the road for the first time in the 2016 football season, traveling to Millikin University on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. Central Time (2 p.m. Indiana Time).
Rose-Hulman comes off a narrow 14-13 loss to Illinois College last Saturday, while Millikin won its season opener at Greenville College 40-21. The Fightin' Engineers finished 8-2 a season ago and enter Saturday's contest on a five-game winning streak in road games.
Senior Austin Swenson finished 27-46 through the air for 287 yards and two scores against Illinois College, increasing his career totals to 517-782 for 6,149 yards and 59 touchdowns. Swenson currently holds 19 school records. Senior Alec Fisher is also a career school record with 27 touchdown receptions and has 156 career catches for 1,952 yards.
Defensively, Rose-Hulman returns 10 starters from a unit that ranked No. 1 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference in total defense last season. Sophomore John Kirby led the team with 14 tackles against Illinois College, while Kyle Brewer had 3.5 tackles-for-loss, 1.5 sacks and a fumble recovery.
Millikin went on the road to top Greenville 40-21 last week. Nicco Stepina was 16-23 passing for 276 yards and four touchdowns to lead a 428-yard offensive attack. Andre Colvin also rushed for 85 and two touchdowns. Rajah Shabazz and Caleb Belcher paced Millikin with six tackles each.
After Saturday's game, Rose-Hulman opens the 2016 HCAC schedule at Hanover College on Sept. 17.
