TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's tennis team will travel to Nashville, Tenn. to compete against Washington & Lee University (Va.)Â in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Saturday at 9 am CT.
Rose-Hulman enters the NCAA Division III Tournament with a 7-3 record after winning the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament last weekend. The Fightin' Engineers make their 6th straight appearance in the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Tournament dating back to 2015.
Rose-Hulman ended the Hanover Panthers undefeated season with a 5-2 win in the HCAC championship match on Sunday afternoon. The Fightin' Engineers went a perfect 4-0 in singles play as the key to the victory.
Joshua Giambattista was named HCAC Tournament Most Valuable Player and holds the No. 1 singles spot. Giambattista is 7-3 in singles and 6-5 in doubles play this season.
Two-time HCAC Player of the Year
Ian Landwehr made his season debut in the No. 2 singles spot at the HCAC Tournament and has a career singles record of 45-13.
Grant Stamper and
Joseph Conrad bring significant experience to the No. 3 and No. 4 singles spots. Stamper was 5-4 this season and has 22 career singles wins, while Conrad was 8-3 to improve his career total to 18 wins.
Freshmen
Hart Howard and
Rhian Seneviratne rounded out the final two singles spots at the HCAC Tournament. Howard was 6-2 this season and Seneviratne was 4-6.Â
Mark Slaninka adds depth in both singles and doubles play.Â
Arudrra Krishnan and
Sean Xia are also included on Rose-Hulman's official nine-player NCAA roster form.
Head coach
Dallas Kelsey will make his NCAA Tournament debut after leading the team to a title in his first full season in the role. Â
Washington & Lee is currently ranked 8th in the Atlantic South region for NCAA Division III men's tennis. The program finished 13-4 this season, winning the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Generals recorded a perfect 9-0 mark in conference play, winning 5-0, 5-0, and 5-2 in tournament play. In the past five seasons, including this season and last year's COVID-19 season, Washington & Lee has tallied a 62-30 cumulative record.
The winner of this match will battle the winner of Mount Aloysius and Williams in the third round on Sunday at 2 pm CT.
The first two matches in the NCAA Division III Tournament are scheduled for this weekend. The NCAA Division III Tennis National Championship features the last eight remaining teams and begins on May 24 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
