TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's track and field teams swept the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week awards, released by the league office on Tuesday. Senior Jailen Hobbs and Tim Youndt each earned the award for their performance in the season-opening Friday Night Spikes meet.

Hobbs earned a pair of first-place finishes in the 60m Dash and the 200m Dash on Friday night in a meet that featured Washington University in St. Louis and Manchester.

The computer engineering major from Spring Lake, North Carolina ran a 6.81 and a 6.82 in his two 60m dash runs, just 0.02 and 0.03 seconds off of his own school record. His 60m dash time ranks 1st in the HCAC and the Great Lakes Region and 2nd in the NCAA Division III. His 200m dash time also ranks 1st in the HCAC, 4th in the Great Lakes Region, and 33rd in NCAA Division III.

Youndt also earned a pair of first-place finishes in the 60m Hurdles and the Triple Jump. He won the 60m Hurdles with a time of 8.67.

The senior mechanical engineering major from Pottstown, Pennsylvania won the Triple Jump with a career-best mark of 47' 4.5" which ranks 2nd in school history, only trailing Tony Allen's record of 48' 5" from 1978. His triple jump mark ranks 1st in the HCAC, 1st in the Great Lakes Region, and 4th in the NCAA Division III.

The Athlete of the Week award is the first of the year for both Hobbs and Youndt. It is the 12th of the career for Hobbs, a reigning All-American in the outdoor 100m dash, and the 4th of the career for Youndt, a reigning NCAA Qualifier in the indoor Triple Jump.

The Fightin' Engineers return to action on Friday, January 19 for the second edition of the Friday Night Spikes meet at the Rose-Hulman SRC.
