TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's swimming and diving team wins their fourth consecutive HCAC Championship as they brought home the 2024 title on Saturday evening.
The Fightin' Engineers team of
Vineet Ranade,
Tommaso Calviello,
Anthony Hoyt, and
Caleb Munger started the meet off with a bang with a time of 6:47.37 in the 800 Free Relay to break the school record and HCAC record. Ranade also broke the 200 Free school record with a time of 1:38.63 in the opening leg of the 800 Free Relay.
On the second day of competition, Munger picked up the first individual event win in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 4:36.69 with the third-fastest time in school history. Ranade won the 200 IM with a time of 1:49.24 which ranks #9 in the nation according to USA Swimming. His time breaks the school record, HCAC record, and Vigo County Aquatic Center record. He broke the 200 IM record in the prelim race as well with a time of 1:49.50. The Fightin' Engineers closed out the day with the third-fastest time in school history in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 3:25.49 en route to a second-place finish for Ranade, Munger,
Sam West, and
Carter Kirtz.
On the third day, the Fightin' Engineers brought home ten top-3 finishes in six races including HCAC titles for Kirtz (100 Breast) and Ranade (200 Free). Munger swam the 3rd-fastest time in school history in the 200 Freestyle en route to a second-place finish. Other top-3 finishers included
Ryan Bowering (2nd in 400 IM), T. Calviello (3rd in 100 Back),
Eric Sinclair (3rd in 100 Breast),
Evan Sellers (3rd in 200 Free),
Blaise Swartwood (3rd in 100 Fly), and
Garrett Walls (3rd in 400 IM).
On the final day, the team earned two more school records to seal the victory. Munger placed second in the 200 Back breaking the school record in the event with a time of 1:51.48. Ranade earned another school record on the weekend in the 200 Breast with a first-place finish and a time of 2:00.65.Â
Garrett Walls was named HCACÂ Newcomer of the Year for his performance in the meet.Â
