Baseball Splits with Emory; Rubber Match on Sunday at 1 PM

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Rose-Hulman baseball team brought home a split from the Emory Eagles in their season opening doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. Rose-Hulman won the first game 11-9 before falling 11-6 in the second game. The two teams will return to the field on Sunday at 1 PM for the rubber match of the three game series.

Kade Kline got the Fightin' Engineers on the board early with the first home run of the 2024 season in the third innings to put Rose-Hulman up 2-0.

After Emory took the lead with four runs in the fourth, Rose-Hulman responded again with a three-run home run from Kline, his second of the game, and an RBI single from Colter Couillard-Rodak.

Emory would tie the game up at 6, but Rose-Hulman would bounce right back again with three runs in the eighth after a pair of RBI singles from Peter Rogers and Couillard-Rodak. However, the Eagles would tie the game once again with three in the eighth. 

Rose-Hulman would retake the lead for the final time in the ninth after a wild pitch and an RBI single by Caleb Frakes brought home the game-winning runs. Jonathan Oliger would come in to pick up the save in the ninth inning to pick up the first win of the season.

Schuyler Wilcox would pick up the win for Rose-Hulman. Michael Yager pitched well with the start in the season opener going 4.2 innings with 3 earned runs allowed and 6 strikeouts.

In the second game, Emory jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, but the Fightin' Engineers responded with 2 in the second and 4 in the third to take a 6-2 lead. Oliger, Jack Kelly, Colton Brown (2), and Mark Serdinak all picked up RBIs for the Fightin' Engineers.

Emory would finish the game with 9 unanswered runs and hold on for an 11-6 victory in the second game of the doubleheader.

Ian Kline got the start pitching 4.2 innings recording six strikeouts. Warren Goik suffered the loss. Tyler Orr and Camden Judson each pitched well in relief combining for 2.1 innings and 1 run allowed.

Couillard-Rodak led the team going 4-8 with a pair of RBIs on the day. Kline finished at 3-7 with 5 RBIs and a pair of home runs.

Connor O'Connell and Oliger each added three hits in the doubleheader as well.

The Fightin' Engineers will wrap up the weekend series against Emory on Sunday, February 25th at 1 PM.
