Baseball Opens 2024 Season with Three Games at Emory

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team opens their 2024 season with a three-games series in Atlanta, Georgia against the Emory Eagles. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, February 24 at 11 AM and 2 PM, and they finish the series with a single game on Sunday, February 25 at 1 PM.

ROSE-HULMAN GAME NOTES:
» Rose-Hulman baseball hits the road as the Fightin' Engineers travel South for eight games in eight days in Georgia and Florida.
* The Fightin' Engineers open up their spring trip in Atlanta, Georgia with a three-game series against the Emory Eagles on February 24 and 25.
* Following their three games in Atlanta, the Fightin' Engineers will continue their Southern trip in Orlando, Florida with five games in the 2024 RussMatt Invitational against Dubuque (Feb. 27), Moravian (Feb. 28), Grove City (DH on Mar. 1), and Houghton (Mar. 2).
* Rose-Hulman opens their third season under head coach Adam Rosen as the Fightin' Engineers look to bounce back from a 23-21 season in 2023 that included a 13-9 record in the HCAC.
* The Fightin' Engineers return the majority of their lineup including seven of their top eight in plate appearances from last season. Rose-Hulman also returns 84% of their innings on the mound last season including 36 of their 44 starts in 2023.
* Rose-Hulman returns a pair of all-conference players from last season's team including Kade Kline (2nd-Team) and Michael Yager (Honorable Mention).
* The Fightin' Engineers had an up and down spring trip last season, finishing the trip at 3-3 overall.
* Rose-Hulman lost a three-game series 2-1 to #3 LaGrange to open the trip in 2023. They would end the trip with a loss to Emory and a pair of wins over Bridgewater and Ferrum at the Piedmont Spring Invitational. 
* Kade Kline was the standout player on last year's spring trip with .440 batting average and .500 on-base percentage. He tallied 11 hits, 9 runs scored, 6 RBIs, and 5 stolen bases on the week.
* Rose-Hulman was selected fourth overall in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference preseason poll. The Fightin' Engineers received 62 poll points.
* After their spring trip, the Fightin' Engineers return to action with a three-game series against Calvin on March 15 and 16.

EMORY NOTES:
* Emory enters the weekend with a 3-4 overall record to start the season.
* The Eagles dropped their opening series of the season 2-1 against Berry.
* After a 1-4 start to the year, Emory rebounded this weekend with a pair of wins over the Mississippi University for Women (12-2) and Huntingdon (10-3 in 14 innings).
* As a team, the Eagles hit .267 in their first seven games with 22 doubles and 5 home runs.
* The Eagles were running wild to start the year with over two stolen bases per game and only three caught stealings.
* Jake Lawson leads the team with a .350 batting average and .500 on-base percentage to start the year. He totaled 7 hits, 6 walks, and 5 stolen bases.
* Blake Dincman has been the slugger for the Eagles with 5 doubles and a home run to start the year. He is batting .346 on the year with an OPS over 1.000 at 1.047.
* On the mound, the Eagles Day 1 and Day 2 starters, Derek Livingston and Ryan Reynolds, have been lights out with 22.2 innings pitched and just two earned runs allowed.
* The starting duo of Livingston and Reynolds has combined for a 0.79 ERA with 21 strikedouts, a .200 OBA, and just 4 walks to start the year.
* The rest of the Emory staff has struggled with a 6.05 ERA in 38.2 innings pitched. They have given up 30 runs, 22 walks, and struck out just 33 batters.
* The Emory defense has been shaky to start the year with 20 errors in their first seven games including having four errors in each of their last four games.
* The Eagles have yet to face a left-handed starting pitcher this season which could change if Michael Yager makes a start for Rose-Hulman in this series.
* Emory has not won a game this season in which they scored single-digit runs. Their three wins have come by scores of 11-2, 12-2, and 10-3.
