GAME NOTES
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team continues their 2024 spring trip with a pair of games on Wednesday, February 28 at 2:30 PM and 4:45 PM against Grove City and Eastern.
ROSE-HULMAN GAME NOTES:
* Rose-Hulman softball continues their 2024 spring trip with six games in the next three games in Melbourne, Florida. Â
* The Fightin' Engineers have split each of their games on Monday and Tuesday with wins over Houghton and Grove City.
* In the next four days, the Fightin' Engineers will continue their Southern trip with games against Grove City, Alma, Houghton, and Eastern as the USSSA Space Coast Complex.
* Rose-Hulman opens their 22nd consecutive season under head coach
Brian Shearer as the Fightin' Engineers look to bounce back from a 7-24 season in 2023 that included a 1-14 record in the HCAC.
* The Fightin' Engineers lost three of their top six hitters from the 2023 season, and they also lose over 50% of their innings pitched from last season's team.
*Â Rose-Hulman returns a pair of CSC All-District players from last season's team including
Katie Palmer and
Hailey Hofmann.
* Palmer has been hot to start the season with a 0.444 batting average and a 0.545 on-base percentage. She leads the team in both categories to start the year.

Jessica Newsom leads the team with three extra-base hits this season. She recorded 2 doubles and a triple en route to a 3-4 day in the win over Houghton on Tuesday.

Phoebe Worstell pitched a complete game, 2-hit shutout on Tuesday against Houghton to bounce back from her rough start on Monday.

Audrey Theuring and
Aubrey Smith have been lights out in the bullpen for the Fightin' Engineers with an ERA of just 3.34 in 14.2 innings pitched.
* Rose-Hulman was selected ninth overall in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference preseason poll. The Fightin' Engineers received 20 poll points. Worstell,
Katelyn Sarvis,
Jadyn Winkler, and Smith were named Players to Watch.
GROVE CITY NOTES:
* Grove City sits at 2-2 on the season with wins over Alma and Houghton.
* The Wolverines have also dropped games to Alma and Rose-Hulman to start the season.
* Erin Mulholland led the Wolverines on the first day with a pair of hits and a 1.350 OPS. She also added one of Grove City's two extra base hits.
* Abigail Meadors added the other extra-base hit with a two-run double in the win over Alma.
*Â Meadors also has led the Wolverines on the mound with a 0.00 ERA and a 0.71 WHIP in her first start, a 7-inning shutout of Alma.
* Grove City returns to action on Thursday with two more games against Alma and Rose-Hulman.
EASTERN NOTES:
* Eastern comes in at 1-1 on the season with a win over Rose-Hulman and a loss to Alma.
* Sydney Ostolaza paced the Eagles in the opening day of the seaosn with two hits, a double, and two RBIs. *Â Tori Hook also added a pair of hits and a run scored.
* On the mound, Danika Barthol led the Eagles with a complete game against Alma where she allowed just two hits and one unearned run in the 1-0 loss to the Scots.
* Eastern returns to the field on Thursday with a doubleheader against Dubuque after playing Grove City and Rose-Hulman on Wednesday.
