TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology is excited to announce the hiring of Kelsey Young as the new head coach of the Fightin' Engineers softball program.

Young has served on the Rose-Hulman softball coaching staff for the past four seasons as an assistant coach. In her four years with the team, she has been a part of three seasons where the Fightin' Engineers have earned 17 wins or more. She was also a member of the coaching staff that led the Fightin' Engineers to the HCAC Tournament in 2025, making their first appearance in the tournament in 17 years.

"We are excited to welcome Kelsey Young as the next Head Coach for Rose-Hulman Softball," said Athletic Director Seth Woodason. "Kelsey brings energy and excitement along with extensive playing and coaching experience to our program. I am looking forward to seeing Kelsey's vision for the softball program come to fruition and for her to lead this team to compete for conference championships in the near future!"

Young is a Terre Haute native and is a graduate of Terre Haute North High School. She remained in the area and continued her education at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, where she earned a bachelor's degree in human resources in 2021. Young was a student-athlete at SMWC on the softball team. During her college career, she posted the school record for single-season putouts with 227 during the 2018 season. Young was also a member of the 2019 team that won the USCAA National Championship.

"First and foremost, I want to thank President Coons, Erik Hayes, Seth Woodason, and the entire search committee for believing in me and giving me this incredible opportunity," said Young. "Rose-Hulman is truly a special place, and the combination of academic excellence, incredible facilities, and outstanding student-athletes makes this an incredible opportunity. I'm excited to continue building a culture our student-athletes can be proud of and developing a program that can compete at the highest level in the conference. As someone who grew up right here in Terre Haute, this is truly a dream come true. I'm incredibly grateful to stay home and have the opportunity to lead this program into an exciting future."

Rose-Hulman softball is scheduled to begin the 2027 competition season at the beginning of March with their spring trip to Florida. The team will get started on campus with practices, team workouts, and other events during the fall.
