Softball Concludes Spring Trip Against Alma and Grove City on Friday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team caps off their 2024 Florida trip with a pair of games against Alma and Grove City at 10 AM and 12:15 PM on Friday.

ROSE-HULMAN GAME NOTES:
» Rose-Hulman softball concludes their 2024 spring trip on Friday as they take on Grove City and Alma at 10 AM and 12:15 PM.
» The Fightin' Engineers come in at 5-3 on the season after a doubleheader sweep of Grove City and Houghton on Thursday.
» Rose-Hulman opens their 22nd consecutive season under head coach Brian Shearer as the Fightin' Engineers look to bounce back from a 7-24 season in 2023 that included a 1-14 record in the HCAC.
» Katie Palmer has been hot to start the season with a 0.421 batting average and a 0.522 on-base percentage. She comes in as one of three Rose-Hulman players with an OPS over 1.000 with a 1.100 OPS.
» Jessica Newsom leads the team with four extra-base hits this season. She has recorded 3 doubles and a triple to lead the team in both categories. She also leads the team with 9 runs scored and 5 stolen bases.
» Aubrey Smith has been one of the top sluggers on the team with the most hits at 10 and the highest slugging percentage at 0.577. She is tied with Newsom with four extra base hits this year. She also leads the team with 7 RBIs.
» Phoebe Worstell leads the team with 4 starts this year. She has a 3.78 ERA and 1.38 WHIP on the year.
» Audrey Theuring leads the team in pitching with a 2.78 ERA in her two starts and five appearances this year. She also leads the team with 13 strikeouts.
» Rose-Hulman was selected ninth overall in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference preseason poll. The Fightin' Engineers received 20 poll points. Worstell, Katelyn Sarvis, Jadyn Winkler, and Smith were named Players to Watch.
» The Fightin' Engineers conclude their spring trip on Friday. They will return to action on Saturday, March 9 as they host Greenville in their home opener doubleheader.

ALMA NOTES:
» Alma sits at 6-2 on the season with both of their losses coming in shutouts against Grove City.
» Emily Dimock leads the team on offense with a 0.375 batting average and tied for the most hits on the team with 6.
» Morgan Brandau is the lone player for the Scots with a slugging percentage over .400. She has three doubles out of her six total hits.
» On the mound, the Scots have two pitchers who have locked down opposing offenses this season. Morgan Westall comes in with a 0.93 ERA in her four starts with 19 strikeouts. Mikaylyn Kenney has added a 1.36 ERA and 32 strikeouts in her four starts for Alma.
» This will be the final gam eof the spring trip for Alma. The Scots will return to action on March 15 as they travel to Marietta.

GROVE CITY NOTES:
» Grove City sits at 3-5 on the season with wins over Alma (twice) and Houghton.
» Annika Rinehart has been dominant on offense for the Wolverines with a 1.596 OPS. She has recorded 9 hits with 4 doubles and 4 RBIs on the year.
» Emma Covert is the lone other Grove City player hitting over .300 with five hits.and three RBIs.
» On the mound, Brooke Brodie has been the top player for the Wolverines with a 2.63 ERA in 16.0 innings pitched.
» This will be the final game of the spring trip for Grove City. The Wolverines will return to action on March 11 as they travel to Penn State-Fayette.
