TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team continues their 2024 spring trip taking on Grove City and Houghton on Thursday, February 29th at 2:30 PM and 4:45 PM. 

ROSE-HULMAN GAME NOTES:
*Rose-Hulman softball continues their 2024 spring trip with four games in the next two games in Melbourne, Florida.
* The Fightin' Engineers come in at 3-3 on the season with splits in each of their first three days of the trip. They three wins have come against Houghton and Grove City (twice).
* In the next two days, the Fightin' Engineers will continue their Southern trip with games against Grove City, Alma, and Houghton at the USSSA Space Coast Complex.
* Rose-Hulman opens their 22nd consecutive season under head coach Brian Shearer as the Fightin' Engineers look to bounce back from a 7-24 season in 2023 that included a 1-14 record in the HCAC.
* Katie Palmer has been hot to start the season with a 0.467 batting average and a 0.527 on-base percentage. She comes in as one of three Rose-Hulman players with an OPS over 1.000.
* Jessica Newsom leads the team with three extra-base hits this season. She recorded 2 doubles and a triple en route to a 3-4 day in the win over Houghton on Tuesday.
* Aubrey Smith joins Newsom with three extra base hits this year as she leads the team in average (0.474), slugging (0.632), and doubles (3) this season.
* Phoebe Worstell pitched a complete game, 2-hit shutout on Tuesday against Houghton to bounce back from her rough start on Monday.
* Audrey Theuring also had a dominating pitching performance on Wednesday with a complete game three-hit shutout with five strikeouts against Grove City.
*Rose-Hulman was selected ninth overall in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference preseason poll. The Fightin' Engineers received 20 poll points. Worstell, Katelyn Sarvis, Jadyn Winkler, and Smith were named Players to Watch.
* The Fightin' Engineers return to the field on Friday as they battle Grove City and Alma in their final day of the trip.

GROVE CITY NOTES:
* Grove City sits at 2-4 on the season with wins over Alma and Houghton.
* The Wolverines have also dropped games to Alma, Eastern, and Rose-Hulman (twice) including two losses on Wednesday.
* Annika Rinehart has been dominant on offense for the Wolverines with a 1.571 OPS. She has recorded 4 hits with 3 doubles and 3 RBIs on the year.
* Erin Mulholland is also tied for the team lead in hits with four, and she is second on the team with a .364 batting average.
* On the mound, Abigail Meadors has been the top player for the Wolverines with a 2.62 ERA in 18.2 innings pitched.
* Grove City returns to action on Friday with two more games against Houghton and Rose-Hulman.

HOUGHTON NOTES:
* Houghton comes in at 0-4 on the season with losses to Rose-Hulman, Grove City, and Fort
Lauderdale (twice).
* Adelynn Killian leads the team in batting to start the year at 0.333 with a pair of hits.
* Last season's hitting leader, Chyanne Bushyhead, is the only other player hitting over .200 at .273 with three hits.
* On the mound, Alisabeth Crandall has been the leader out of the pen as she has yet to give up an unearned run in 4.1 innings pitched.
* The Highlanders return to the field on Friday for two more games against Alma and Grove City.
