LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team dropped the opening game of their three-game series with transyulvania on Friday evening with an 13-8 defeat in Lexington.

The Fightin' Engineers got the scoring going in the first with a solo home run from Colter Couillard-Rodak.

Transylvania retook the lead in the bottom of the inning with 2 in the first and 1 in the third to lead in 3-1 after three innings of play.

Jonathan Oliger singled home a run in the fourth, and Couillard-Rodak kept the rally going with two more RBIs to put Rose-Hulman back in front with a 4-3 lead.

In the seventh inning, the Fightin' Engineers would tack on three more insurance runs on a three-run homer from Mark Serdinak to stretch the lead to 7-3.

Transylvania would battle back in the bottom of the inning with eight runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth to take a 13-7 lead.

The Fightin' Engineers would load the bases in the bottom of the ninth, but they would only push one run across and fall 13-8.

Michael Yager had a great start to the game, but he struggled in the seventh to finish with a line of 6.1 innings, 6 earned runs allowed, and 4 strikeouts.

Couillard-Rodak, Dalton Busboom, and Jackson Summers led the Fightin' Engineers at the dish with two hits, and both Couillard-Rodak and Serdinak added three RBIs in the loss.

Rose-Hulman drops their second consecutive game and falls to 11-8 on the season and 3-2 in the HCAC. They return to action on Saturday for a doubleheader against the Pioneers at 1 PM and 4 PM.
