Softball Travels to Bluffton for HCAC Saturday Doubleheader

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team travels to Bluffton University on Saturday, April 20 for an HCAC doubleheader at 1 PM and 3 PM.

ROSE-HULMAN GAME NOTES:
» The Fightin' Engineers enter the match up with the Beavers with a record of 18-10 overall and 5-3 in the HCAC. 
» The team comes off an exciting weekend as the team won five of their six games against Blackburn, Anderson, and Manchester.
» Phoebe Worstell had an exceptional weekend setting the new school record with three home runs in a single game in the team's first win against Anderson. 
» Worstell then came in to pitch a six inning shutout against the Ravens in game two to sweep Anderson. 
» Rose-Hulman leads the conference and ranks 48th in the nation with six shutouts this season. 
» Rose-Hulman opens their 22nd consecutive season under head coach Brian Shearer as the Fightin' Engineers look to bounce back from a 7-24 season in 2023 that included a 1-14 record in the HCAC.
» Jessica Newsom leads the Fightin' Engineers with a .385 batting average, 40 hits, 27 runs scored, five home runs, 20 RBIs, a .654 slugging percentage, and .418 on-base percentage.
» Aubrey Smith has also been able to make an impact with 30 hits, 19 runs scored, and 20 RBIs.
» Smith has been the ace in the circle with a team-high 67.1 innings pitched and 52 strikeouts.
» Worstell has also made an impact in the circle with 62.2 innings pitched with 44 strikeouts, a team-high 2.23 ERA, and four shutouts. 
» Rose-Hulman was selected ninth overall in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference preseason poll. The Fightin' Engineers received 20 poll points. Phoebe Worstell, Katelyn Sarvis, Jadyn Winkler, and Smith were named Players to Watch.
» The team currently stands in fourth place in the HCAC standings behind Franklin, Transylvania, and Manchester. 
» The Fightin' Engineers will return to HCAC play on Wednesday, April 24 as they host the Franklin Grizzlies at 5:30 PM and 7:30 PM on Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day.

BLUFFTON NOTES:
» Bluffton enters the weekend with a record of 6-24 overall and 0-8 in the HCAC this season. 
» The Beavers are currently on a 10-game losing streak with their most recent losses coming against Manchester and Transylvania.
» Mia McCartney leads the team at the plate with 29 hits, 22 RBIs, and 18 runs scored this season.
» Kaylee Grant is another standout with a team-high .400 batting average, recording 28 hits, 12 RBIs, and 26 runs scored. 
» Haley Lewis is the team's ace in the circle with 65.2 innings pitched and 21 strikeouts.
» Emily Hope has also been a strong arm for the Beavers with 49.1 innings pitched, a team-high three wins, and 1.89 WHIP. 
» After facing the Fightin' Engineers, Bluffton will travel to face Mount St. Joseph University on Wednesday, April 24 at 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM.
