TERRE HAUTE, Ind.-- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team snapped their four game losing streak on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of Bluffton at Art Nehf Field. The Fightin' Engineers won the first game 14-3 before taking the second game 6-0.
The Fightin' Engineers took control of the first game early putting up five runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Peter Rogers doubled to bring in a run by
Kade Kline, then a single by
Connor O'Connell scored runs by
Colter Couillard-Rodak and Rogers.
Mark Serdinak finished the inning strong with a two-run homer to build a strong lead for the Engineers.
Rose-Hulman was able to seal the win after seven innings after putting up another five-run inning in the bottom of the fifth.
Jonathan Oliger singled to bring in Serdinak, and Rogers connected with a grand slam scoring runs by Kline, Oliger, and
Jackson Summers.
Rogers had an outstanding day at the plate going four for five with seven RBIs and three runs scored. His seven RBIs ties him for the second most RBIs in a single game in Rose-Hulman school history.
Michael Yager earned the win on the mound pitching 5.0 innings with four strikeouts.
The Fightin' Engineers were able to carry the momentum into the second game of the day. A double by O'Connell would score two runs in the bottom of the first to give Rose the early lead.
Rose-Hulman continued to swing the bats well to complete the sweep over the Beavers. Rogers continued to shine at the plate going three for four in game two with three runs scored and one RBI.
Ian Kline had a dominant performance on the mound earning the win pitching 8.0 innings with five strikeouts. Kline and
Schuyler Wilcox combined for the shutout win.
Rose-Hulman improves to 13-10 overall on the season and 5-4 in the HCAC. They will return to their home field on Sunday, April 7 at 12 PM as they look for the three-game series sweep of the Beavers.
