Softball Opens HCAC Play Against Transylvania Saturday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team will open conference play, traveling to face Transylvania on Saturday, March 29, at 1 PM and 3 PM.

ROSE-HULMAN GAME NOTES:
* Rose-Hulman stands at 6-6 overall this season, entering the weekend.
* The team comes off two losses to Greenville with final scores of 9-0 and 6-2. 
* Jessica Newsom has been the standout at the plate, leading the team with 15 hits, eight runs scored, and two stolen bases this season. 
* Aubrey Smith has also been a productive hitter, leading the team with a .417 batting average, a 1.182 OPS, five doubles, one home run, and 15 RBIs.
* Phoebe Worstell leads the team in the circle with 22.0 innings pitched, 21 strikeouts, and a team-best 3.18 ERA. 
* The Fightin' Engineers have been picked to finish seventh in the HCAC preseason poll, receiving 34 points. 
* The team finished last year with a record of 21-19 overall and 8-10 in the HCAC.
* Last season is just the second 20-win season for the Fightin' Engineers in the past 16 years. 
* Jessica Newsom is the lone All-HCAC returner after earning First Team All-HCAC during her freshman campaign.
* Phoebe Worstell, Jadyn Winkler, and Aubrey Smith have also been named players to watch by the HCAC. 
* After facing Transylvania and this weekend, Rose-Hulman will host Berea in HCAC action on Saturday, April 5, at 1 PM and 3 PM. 

TRANSYLVANIA NOTES:
* Transylvania stands at 11-2 overall this season. 
* The team has won eight straight games. 
* The Pioneers come off a doubleheader sweep over Spalding with scores of 9-6 and 7-6.
* Katie Mewes leads the team with 15 hits this season, a batting average of .385, and a slugging percentage of .538.
* Dakota Burke is another standout with 10 hits, two doubles, one triple, and a team-high 13 RBIs. 
* Raegan Gibson leads the team in the circle with 34.0 innings pitched and a team-best 0.82 ERA. 
* After hosting Rose-Hulman, Transylvania will continue HCAC play, hosting Anderson on Sunday, March 30 at 1 PM and 3 PM. 

TRANSYLVANIA SERIES HISTORY:
* Rose-Hulman trails in the all-time series against Transylvania with a record of 7-36 against the Pioneers. 
* Rose-Hulman has lost the last 16 games against Transylvania, dating back to the 2016 season.
* The team suffered losses to the Pioneers last season with final scores of 4-0 and 7-0. 
* Rose-Hulman has an all-time away record of 4-17 when traveling to face the Pioneers.
