Softball Takes on Hanover in HCAC Action Wednesday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team will return to conference play, traveling to take on Hanover on Wednesday, April 23, at 3 PM and 5 PM. 

ROSE-HULMAN NOTES:
* Rose-Hulman stands at 12-10 overall and 4-4 in the HCAC this season.
* The team comes off a doubleheader sweep over Blackburn on Monday with scores of 5-0 and 12-0.
* Aubrey Smith had an exceptional performance in the first game of the doubleheader against Blackburn, pitching a no-hitter and a shutout with 7.0 innings pitched and seven strikeouts. 
* Smith totals 59.0 innings pitched, 40 strikeouts, and a 3.80 ERA this season.
Jessica Newsom has been the standout at the plate, leading the team with 28 hits, 18 runs scored, and four stolen bases this season. 
Aubrey Smith has also been a productive hitter, leading the team with a .406 batting average, a 1.219 OPS, nine doubles, three home runs, and 24 RBIs.
Phoebe Worstell has made an impact in the circle this season, totaling 44.0 innings pitched, 49 strikeouts, and a 3.18 ERA.
* The Fightin' Engineers have been picked to finish seventh in the HCAC preseason poll, receiving 34 points. 
* The team finished last year with a record of 21-19 overall and 8-10 in the HCAC.
* Last season is just the second 20-win season for the Fightin' Engineers in the past 16 years. 
Jessica Newsom is the lone All-HCAC returner after earning First Team All-HCAC during her freshman campaign.
Phoebe WorstellJadyn Winkler, and Aubrey Smith have also been named players to watch by the HCAC. 
* After traveling to Hanover, Rose-Hulman will return home to host Manchester on Saturday, April 26, at 1 PM and 3 PM.

HANOVER NOTES:
* The Panthers enter Wednesday's matchup with a record of 9-13 overall and 5-3 in the HCAC. 
* The team comes off a doubleheader sweep over Berea with scores of 18-0 and 6-4. 
* Ashley Fulton leads the team at the plate with a .315 batting average, 23 hits, six doubles, 15 runs scored, and 19 RBIs
* Laurie Harmless is another standout with a .368 batting average, totaling 28 hits, 13 runs scored, and 16 RBIs.
* Lauren Beaman is the top pitcher for the Panthers with 50.1 innings pitched, 32 strikeouts, and a 3.75 ERA.
* Hanover has been selected to finish sixth in the HCAC preseason poll with 38 points. 
* After hosting Rose-Hulman, Hanover will travel to take on Mount St. Joseph on Saturday, April 26, at 1 PM and 3 PM. 

HANOVER SERIES HISTORY:
* Rose-Hulman trails in the all-time series between both teams with a record of 20-21 against the Panthers. 
* The Fightin' Engineers split their doubleheader against the Panthers last season, winning game one 4-3, and falling in game two 9-7.
* Rose-Hulman has an all-time away record of 9-11 when traveling to play Hanover.
