TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference has announced their weekly award winners for the sport of men's basketball. Joey Schmitz has been named the HCAC Athlete of the Week for his performance across the Fightin' Engineers' two wins over Hanover and Franklin. 

Schmitz was a standout for the Fightin' Engineers as they went 2-0 against HCAC opponents this week. The mechanical engineering major started the week with a team-high 26 points and seven rebounds in the team's win over Hanover. He then led the team with 19 points in Rose-Hulman's victory over Franklin.

The Bargersville, Indiana, native finished the week averaging 22.5 points per game and 4.5 rebounds per game. He also wrapped up the week shooting 65% from the field and 69% from beyond the arc. 

This is the fourth HCAC Athlete of the Week award for Schmitz in his career with the Fightin' Engineers. 

The Fightin' Engineers stand at the top of the conference with a record of 10-6 overall and 7-2 in the HCAC. The team will return to action on the road at Manchester on Wednesday, January 21, at 7:30 PM.
