CARMEL, Ind. -- The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference has announced its weekly award winners for the sport of men's track & field. Rose-Hulman was represented in the awards announcement, with
Antoine Cooper earning HCAC Throws Athlete of the Week and
James Kaunas claiming HCAC Jumps Athlete of the Week.
Cooper had a record-breaking performance at the DePauw Invite. The mechanical engineering major broke the Rose-Hulman school record in the weight throw with a first-place finish and a mark of 18.02 meters (59' 1.5"). The Indianapolis, Indiana native also recorded a sixth-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 14.01 meters (45' 11.75"). His mark in the weight throw is the top mark in the conference this season, and his shot put finish ranks fourth in the conference. His weight throw mark also ranks 21st in all of NCAA DIII this season.
Kaunas was the top jumper for Rose-Hulman this past week. The computer science major earned an event win in the triple jump at the DePauw Invite with a mark of 13.46 meters (44' 2"). The Johnsburg, Illinois native also placed fourth in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.83 meters (6' 0"). Kaunas' high jump mark now ranks sixth in the HCAC so far this season.
This is the fourth HCAC Athlete of the Week award for Kaunas and the sixth award for Cooper in their college careers with Rose-Hulman.
The Rose-Hulman men's track & field team will look ahead to competing in the Indiana State Open on Saturday, February 21, at 12 PM.
