CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Rose-Hulman men's track & field team placed first at the HCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. This is the fourth consecutive HCAC Indoor Track & Field Title for the Fightin' Engineers and the 15th HCAC Indoor Championship for the team in the last 16 years.
Head Coach Shane Mills was named the HCAC Coach of the Year, and Derrick Lawrence earned HCAC Assistant Coach of the Year.
Other special award winners for Rose-Hulman included
Andrew Shields, who earned HCAC Sprint Athlete of the Year, and
Xaiden Jenson, who was the Co-Newcomer of the Year.
The Fightin' Engineers claimed six event wins and 20 top-three finishes in the championship meet.
In the running events, Shields was the standout with an event win in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.51. The time was enough to break the HCAC record in the event.
William Fleck was another event winner in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.41. His time ranks fourth in the school record book in the event.
Joshua Pohle was the other running event champion in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:07.08.
The 4x400-meter relay team of
Connor Bodie,
Wyatt Starkie,
Alejandro Clark, and Shields also claimed an event win with a time of 3:26.24.
In the field events, the team was led by
Kolton Nanko, placing first in the Pole Vault after clearing a height of 4.85 meters (15' 11"). This mark jis a new HCAC record and ranks fifth in the RHIT record book.
James Kaunas was another champion in the field events, with a win in the triple jump with a mark of 13.84 meters (45' 5"). This mark ranks fourth in the school record books.
MEN'S RESULTS
Individual event and relay winners shall be considered First Team All-HCAC. All second-place finishers shall be considered Second Team All-HCAC. The third-place finishers in all events will be designated Honorable Mention All-Conference Performers.
