CARMEL, Ind. -- The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference has announced its weekly award winners for the sport of men's track & field. Andrew Shields has been named the HCAC Sprint Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Fairgrounds Invitational and the Keck Select Meet.

Shields had two outstanding performances this week. The mechanical engineering major ran on Friday, placing fifth in the competitive Fairgrounds Invitational with a personal best time of 49.03 in the 400-meter run. This is the third-best time in the Rose-Hulman record book and is the fastest time in the conference this season.

The Bryan, Texas, native then earned a second-place finish at the Keck Select Meet on Saturday with a time of 22.53 in the 200-meter run. This is the fastest time in the conference in the 200 so far this year.

This is the second HCAC Athlete of the Week honor for Shields this season, and the fourth of his college career with the Fightin' Engineers.

The men's track & field team will return to action this weekend. The team will travel individuals to compete in the Heartland Invite and the GVSU Big Meet on Friday, February 13, and the DePauw Invitational on Saturday, February 14.
