Softball Battles Principia, Spalding, and Franklin in Midweek Matchups

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman softball team will play three midweek doubleheaders this week, traveling to face Principia on Monday, April 13, at 3 PM and 5 PM, and traveling to face Spalding on Thursday, April 16, at 3 PM and 5 PM. The team's conference doubleheader against Franklin has been moved to Friday, April 17, at 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM. 

ROSE-HULMAN SOFTBALL NOTES:
* The Fightin' Engineers stand at 8-12 overall and 1-5 in the HCAC this season. 
* Rose-Hulman comes off a doubleheader loss to Earlham with final scores of 9-5 and 13-6.
Kayla Schnippel leads the team at the plate with a .406 batting average, totaling 28 hits, three doubles, six runs, and 13 RBIs. 
Emily Hodges is another standout hitter, totaling a .338 batting average with 24 hits, 14 runs scored, three doubles, and 14 RBIs. 
Jessica Newsom is another productive hitter with a .343 batting average, totaling 20 runs scored, 23 hits, four doubles, four home runs, and 14 RBIs.
Aubrey Smith leads the team in the pitching circle with a record of 6-5 overall, totaling 56.2 innings pitched with 40 strikeouts and an ERA of 5.19.
* Smith has also been exceptional at the plate with a .333 batting average, totaling 14 runs scored, 19 hits, two doubles, one triple, and three home runs, with a team-high 15 RBIs.
* The Rose-Hulman softball team has been selected to finish sixth in the HCAC Preseason Poll, earning 44 points. 
* The team returns First Team All-HCAC honoree Jessica Newsom for her junior season. 
* Rose-Hulman also returns Kayla Schnippel and Aubrey Smith, who earned Second Team All-HCAC last season. 
* The team is led by Head Coach Brian Shearer in his 24th season with the Fightin' Engineers softball program. 
* After facing Principia, Spalding, and Franklin, the Fightin' Engineers will host Transylvania for Senior Day on Saturday, April 18, at 1 PM and 3 PM. The team will close out the busy week hosting Monmouth on Sunday, April 19, at 1 PM and 3 PM. 

PRINCIPIA SOFTBALL NOTES:
* The Panthers stand at 3-13 overall this season and 0-8 in the SLIAC.
* The team has lost eight straight, most recently dropping both games of their doubleheader against Eureka with scores of 11-3, and 23-5. 
* Paige Morris leads the team with a .378 batting average, totaling 14 hits, 15 runs scored, four doubles, and 12 RBIs.
* Sophie Wegrzyn is another productive hitter for the Panthers with a .333 batting average, totaling 12 hits, 4 runs, six doubles, one homer, and 14 RBIs.
* Wegrzyn leads the team in the circle with 32.0 innings pitched, with 15 strikeouts and a 12.69 ERA.
* Principia is led by Head Coach Grace Burrows in her second season with the Panthers.
* After hosting Rose-Hulman, the team will host Westminster on Thursday, April 16, at 3 PM and 5 PM. 

PRINCIPIA SERIES HISTORY:
* This is the first time that the Rose-Hulman softball team will face Principia in program history. 

FRANKLIN SOFTBALL NOTES:
* Franklin stands atop the HCAC standings with a record of 21-5 overall and 6-0 in the HCAC.
* The team is on an eight-game winning streak, with their most recent wins coming against Bluffton in a doubleheader sweep, 11-3 and 12-4.
* Zoey Kugelman leads the team at the plate with a .489 batting average, totaling 44 hits, 33 runs scored, 12 doubles, and one homer, with 23 RBIs. 
* Jaylee Fansler is another offensive weapon for the Grizzlies with a .519 batting average, totaling 41 hits, 36 runs scored, 10 doubles, two triples, four home runs, and 32 RBIs.
* Lauren Duncan is the team's top pitcher with 59.0 innings pitched, 47 strikeouts, and a 3.20 ERA. 
* Franklin has been selected to finish third in the HCAC Preseason Poll, earning 62 points and one first-place vote.
* The Grizzlies are led by Head Coach Brittney Harvey in her second season with the team.
* After facing Rose-Hulman, Franklin will host Earlham on Saturday, April 18, at 1 PM and 3 PM. 

FRANKLIN SERIES HISTORY:
* Rose-Hulman trails Franklin in the all-time series between both teams with a record of 22-25 overall against the Grizzlies. 
* The Fightin' Engineers have lost nine straight games, dating back to the 2022 season. 
* The last time Rose defeated the Grizzlies was during the 2021 season with a final score of 10-5. 
* The Fightin' Engineers have an all-time home record of 11-11 when hosting the Grizzlies. 

SPALDING SOFTBALL NOTES:
* The Golden Eagles stand at 11-14 overall and 3-1 in the SLIAC.
* The team comes off a doubleheader split with Greenville, winning game one, 9-1, and falling in game two, 14-3.
* Riley Wilkins leads the team at the plate with a .434 batting average, totaling 33 hits, 23 runs, two doubles, one triple, and five RBIs.
* Braeanna Billups is another standout hitter with a .379 batting average, totaling 22 hits, 10 runs scored, four doubles, one triple, one homer, and 19 RBIs.
* Wilkins is the top pitcher for the Golden Eagles, totaling 55.2 innings pitched with 27 strikeouts and a 4.78 ERA.
* The team is led by Head Coach Art Williams in his 14th season with the team.
* After hosting Rose-Hulman, Spalding will host Eureka on Senior Day on Saturday, April 18, at 1 PM and 3 PM.

SPALDING SERIES HISTORY:
* Rose-Hulman trails in the all-time series against Spalding with a record of 8-14 against the Golden Eagles.
* The Fightin' Engineers have lost their last four games against Spalding, dating back to the 2023 season.
* The last time Rose defeated Spalding was in the 2021 season with a score of 4-0.
