Softball Battles Berea in Road Doubleheader Saturday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman softball team will hit the road to continue their conference schedule, battling Bera on Saturday, April 25, at 1 PM and 3 PM.

ROSE-HULMAN SOFTBALL NOTES:
* The Fightin' Engineers currently ranks eighth in the HCAC standings with a record of 12-20 overall and 2-10 in the conference this season. 
* Rose-Hulman comes off a split against Anderson, winning game one 3-2 and falling in game two, 5-4, after eight innings.
* Jessica Newsom has been a strong hitter for Rose this season with a .352 batting average, totaling 37 hits, 31 runs scored, six doubles, 19 RBIs, and a team high 
* Aubrey Smith is another standout with a .374 batting average, totaling 34 hits, 22 runs, seven doubles, one triple, four home runs, and a team-high 24 RBIs.
* Smith is the star pitcher for the Fightin' Engineers with 90.1 innings pitched, totaling 59 strikeouts and a 4.73 ERA.
* The Rose-Hulman softball team has been selected to finish sixth in the HCAC Preseason Poll, earning 44 points. 
* The team returns First Team All-HCAC honoree Jessica Newsom for her junior season. 
* Rose-Hulman also returns Kayla Schnippel and Aubrey Smith, who earned Second Team All-HCAC last season. 
* The team is led by Head Coach Brian Shearer in his 24th season with the Fightin' Engineers softball program. 
* After traveling to Berea, Rose-Hulman will return home to host Hanover in their final home doubleheader of the season on Wednesday, April 29, at 5:30 PM and 7:30 PM.

BEREA SOFTBALL NOTES:
* Berea ranks 10th in the conference standings with a record of 2-28 overall and 1-11 in the HCAC. 
* The team has lost their last four games, most recently falling to Transylvania with scores of 8-0 and 9-1.
* Jessyca Searcy leads the team at the plate with a .309 batting average, totaling 29 hits, 12 runs scored, and four RBIs.
* Mackenzie Howell is another productive hitter for the Mountaineers with a .306 batting average, totaling 26 hits, 10 runs, and a team-high three homers and 15 RBIs.
* Candice Williams is the top pitcher for the Mountaineers, totaling 88.0 innings pitched with 62 strikeouts and a 6.36 ERA.
* Berea has been picked to finish 10th in the HCAC Preseason Poll, earning nine points. 
* The team is led by Head Coach Angela Dean in her fifth season with the Mountaineers.
* After hosting Rose-Hulman, the team will host Mount St. Joseph on Tuesday, April 28, at 4:30 PM and 6:30 PM.

BEREA SERIES HISTORY:
* Rose-Hulman leads the all-time series against Berea with a record of 2-0.
* The Fightin' Engineers defeated the Mountaineers in last year's doubleheader with final scores of 7-5 and 8-0.
* This will be the first time in program history that the Fightin' Engineers will travel to take on Berea on the road.
