Men's Track & Field Solidifies Second Straight Triple Crown with HCAC Outdoor Title

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Rose-Hulman men's track & field team earned a first-place finish at the HCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday. The team claims their 16th outdoor title in program history and their second straight triple crown, winning the cross country, indoor, and outdoor championships in back-to-back years. 

The win adds to the rich history of the Rose-Hulman men's track & field program. This is the eighth triple crown in school history for the men's team and brings the combined total of indoor and outdoor track & field championships to 31.

The Fightin' Engineers finished the meet with seven event wins and 17 top-three finishes. Head Coach Shane Mills was named the HCAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year. 

Joshua Pohle earned multiple event wins in the 10,000-meter run (31:36.00) and the 5,000-meter run (15:22.63). 

Antoine Cooper led the throwers with an event win in the discus with a mark of 51.51 meters (169' 0"). Cooper also earned two third-place finishes in the hammer throw (50.03 meters, 164' 1") and the shot put (15.44 meters, 50' 8").

Ben Olenick was a standout for the jumpers with an event win in the high jump after clearing a height of 1.89 meters (6' 2.25"). James Kaunas was the other event winner in the jump events with a victory in the triple jump with a mark of 13.82 meters (45' 4.25").

Andrew Shields was another gold medalist on the track with an event win in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.25. William Fleck also claimed a victory on the track in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.85. Fleck's time in the 110-meter hurdles currently ranks third in the Rose-Hulman school record book. 

The Rose-Hulman men's track & field team will return to action, traveling individuals to compete in the St. Francis Fighting Chance meet on Friday, May 8, and the Sycamore Open on Saturday, May 9.

Individual event and relay winners shall be considered First Team All-HCAC. All second-place finishers shall be considered Second Team All-HCAC. The third-place finishers in all events will be designated Honorable Mention All-Conference Performers.
