Men's Tennis Lands Six All-HCAC Honorees; Eckermann Named Player of the Year and Wilson Coach of the Year

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference has announced its All-HCAC and special award winners for the sport of men's tennis. The Fightin' Engineers landed six student-athletes on the All-HCAC list, highlighted by Tim Eckermann earning HCAC Player of the Year and Head Coach Matt Wilson earning HCAC Men's Coach of the Year.

Players who earned First Team All-HCAC included Tim Eckermann, Ephraim Guthrie, Chris Lian, Joao Henrique Nossar, and Ervin Perkowski. Yuki Usuda received Honorable Mention All-HCAC for his efforts this season as well. 

Wilson is in his third season as the head coach of the Fightin' Engineers men's and women's tennis programs. He has led the men's team to three straight HCAC Regular Season Titles with undefeated conference records. His team has won the HCAC Tournament the last two years and qualified for the NCAA Tournament. Wilson has a men's coaching record of 40-23 overall and 20-0 in the HCAC during the regular season. 

Eckermann has been a standout for the Fightin' Engineers all season. In singles play, Eckermann was undefeated at 6-0 in the conference and 12-8 overall on the season. He was also one of the team's top doubles players with an undefeated 6-0 record against conference opponents and a 12-8 record overall. Eckermann was listed as under consideration in the NCAA Region VI Rankings as a singles player. Eckermann and his teammate Lian were ranked sixth in the region in doubles play, finishing the regular season with a record of 12-6 overall and undefeated at 6-0 in the conference. 

Guthrie led the team with 18 singles wins this season and finished the year with an overall record of 18-3. He was undefeated in singles across conference play with a record of 6-0. Guthrie reached double figures in wins in doubles play as well, with a record of 10-6 overall. Guthrie and Henrique Nossar ranked third on the team in doubles wins with a record of 6-2. 

Lian was the other half of the Fightin' Engineers' top doubles team this season with teammate Eckermann. The duo was ranked sixth in Region VI in doubles play, helping the Fightin' Engineers earn their first NCAA Regional Rank in program history. Lian finished the year with 13 doubles wins and an undefeated record of 6-0 across conference matches.

Henrique Nossar finished the year with a record of 8-9 in singles play with an undefeated 3-0 record across conference matches. He also earned a record of 7-3 in doubles matches with a conference mark of 2-1. Henrique Nossar teamed up with Guthrie as the third-best doubles team for the Fightin' Engineers this season, with an overall record of 6-2 with a conference mark of 2-1. 

Perkowski reached double figures in singles wins this season with an overall record of 10-13 and a conference mark of 3-3. Perkowski led the team with 14 doubles wins this season, finishing the year with a record of 14-9 overall and 5-1 in the HCAC. Perkowski teamed up with Eli McIntyre to lead the team with 12 doubles wins on the season and a conference record of 4-1. 

Usuda joined the team as a transfer midway through the year and made an immediate impact. Usuda stands undefeated at 6-0 overall in singles play this season and 5-0 across conference matches. 

The Fightin' Engineers have earned the #1 seed in the HCAC Tournament after winning their third consecutive regular season title with a record of 13-7 overall and 7-0 in HCAC play. Rose-Hulman will compete in the HCAC Semifinal on Saturday, May 2, at 4 PM.
