Jessica Newsom Named First Team All-Conference

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman softball standout Jessica Newsom has been named to the HCAC Softball All-Conference list, earning First Team honors for her efforts this season. This is the third First Team All-HCAC recognition for Newsom in her college career with the Fightin' Engineers. 

Newsom is a junior civil engineering major from Lawrenceville, Georgia. She finished the year, leading the team in almost all hitting statistical categories. She totaled a .398 batting average, with 51 hits, 41 runs scored, 11 doubles, nine home runs, 89 total bases, and 30 RBIs. She also led the team with 16 stolen bases on the season. 

In the HCAC, Newsom landed in the top 10 in multiple categories. She ranked third in home runs, fourth in total bases, seventh in runs scored, seventh in slugging percentage, ninth in hits, and 10th in stolen bases.

She currently ranks in the top three across multiple statistical categories in the Rose-Hulman career record books. She ranks second with a .399 career batting average, second in slugging percentage at .659, second in runs scored with 102, second in home runs with 18, second in total bases with 249, third in stolen bases with 28, third in hits with 151, and third in doubles with 38.

Rose-Hulman finished the year ranked seventh in the HCAC standings, missing out on the top six teams who qualified for the HCAC Tournament. The team finished the year with a record of 17-21 overall and 7-11 in the HCAC.
