Jessica Newsom Earns First-Career All-Region Honors

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman catcher Jessica Newsom has been named Third Team All-Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. This is the first time Newsom has been named All-Region in her college career. 

The NFCA All-Region list consists of 386 student-athletes across 161 schools in NCAA Division III. All honorees move forward to be considered for selection for the three NFCA Division III All-America squads, which will be announced on Wednesday, May 27.

The civil engineering major from Lawrenceville, Georgia, finished her junior season leading the team in almost all hitting statistical categories. She totaled a .398 batting average, with 51 hits, 41 runs scored, 11 doubles, nine home runs, 89 total bases, and 30 RBIs. She also led the team with 16 stolen bases on the season. 

She currently ranks in the top three across multiple statistical categories in the Rose-Hulman career record books. She ranks second with a .399 career batting average, second in slugging percentage at .659, second in runs scored with 102, second in home runs with 18, second in total bases with 249, third in stolen bases with 28, third in hits with 151, and third in doubles with 38.

Newsom becomes only the ninth Rose-Hulman softball player to receive All-Region status, bringing the program's total to 10 All-Region recognitions.
