Smith and Schnippel Awarded CSC Academic All-District Honors

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The College Sports Communicators have announced their Academic All-District award winners for the sport of softball. Aubrey Smith and Kayla Schnippel represented the Rose-Hulman softball team in the awards release. 

Smith is a junior mechanical engineering major who was a key contributor in the circle and at the plate for the Fightin' Engineers. She was the star pitcher for the team, totaling 111.1 innings pitched, 72 strikeouts, and a 4.15 ERA. At the plate, she recorded a .348 batting average with 39 hits, 27 runs scored, eight doubles, one triple, five homers, and 29 RBIs.

Schnippel is a junior chemical engineering major who was a star first baseman for the squad. She totaled a .352 batting average with 31 hits, 10 runs scored, four doubles, and 15 RBIs. She was also a reliable option for the team in the circle with 24.0 innings pitched, totaling eight strikeouts and a 4.67 ERA. 

CSC Academic All-District Team honorees are chosen by the national organization based on combined academic and athletic accomplishments. Nominees must have a GPA above 3.50 in at least the sophomore year, and they must have either played in 90% or started 66% of their team's games. Pitchers must have appeared in 17 games or pitched a minimum of 35.0 innings. 

CSC members will vote on the Academic All-America Team over the next week. The Academic All-America Team for softball will be released on Tuesday, June 16, at noon.
