TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners for the sport of football. William Fleck earned HCAC Defensive Athlete of the Week, and Rudy Griffing was named the HCAC Special Teams Athlete of the Week. 

Fleck had an incredible individual performance in the Fightin' Engineers' win over Kalamazoo with a score of 27-7. The junior mechanical engineering major tied the school record for most sacks in a single game with 5.0. The Chillicothe, Ohio, native also totaled seven tackles and a forced fumble. Two of his sacks came in the fourth quarter, when Kalamazoo was driving to get back into the game. Fleck recorded back-to-back sacks on third and fourth down to turn the ball over on downs and protect the lead. Fleck now leads all of NCAA Division III with six sacks this season. 

Griffing made a huge play for the Fightin' Engineers on special teams in their big win over Kalamazoo. With the team ahead 21-7 in the fourth quarter, the junior mechanical engineering major recovered a muffed punt in the back of the end zone for a Rose-Hulman touchdown that extended the lead to 27-7. The Plano, Illinois, native also totaled two tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss. 

This is the first career HCAC Athlete of the Week award for both Fleck and Griffing in their college careers with the Fightin' Engineers. 

Rose-Hulman football will return home to host Albion on Saturday, September 14, at 1 PM.
