TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team will host a Grey Matter Awareness Game on Tuesday night during its 7 p.m. home matchup against Mount St. Joseph.
The contest features two institutions which have witnessed first-hand the impact of battles with brain cancer and the strength required to navigate these challenges. Mount St. Joseph student-athlete Lauren Hill inspired millions through her battle before passing away in April, including the "Layup 4 Lauren Challenge" that has helped raise over $1.5 million for The Cure Starts Now Foundation. Rose-Hulman head coach Amy Helliwell continues to lead the Fightin' Engineer women's soccer program during her fight.
The game features free admission, with donations accepted toward the foundation of the Helliwell's choice. Students will receive free grey T-shirts with valid ID, and non-students will be able to purchase T-shirts for a $10 donation. Fans will also be allowed to declare who "I Fight For" and will learn about organizations specifically targeted to educating about the impact of Grey Matter and cancer.
Free food, games and tailgate activities will begin at 6:30 p.m., with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
Rose-Hulman enters the matchup with a 5-5 record and is 1-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while Mount St. Joseph stands 5-4-1 and 0-1 in league matches. Senior Kate DeMoss (5), senior Helena Bomber (2), and sophomore Eliska Saiz (2) have scored multiple goals this season to lead the offense, while senior Lucinda Combs has compiled a 0.90 goals against average, an .868 save percentage and 59 total saves in 10 matches.
After Tuesday's matchup, Rose-Hulman will hit the road for Transylvania University on Saturday afternoon.
