HANOVER, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology travels to Hanover College for the championship game of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Panther Athletic Complex.
Rose-Hulman won a share of its fifth HCAC regular season championship since 2008 by finishing 7-0-2 in conference play. The Fightin' Engineers have won three consecutive matches and have a streak of 13 straight matches without a loss entering the the championship game in the HCAC Tournament.
Rose-Hulman stands 13-2-4 overall entering Saturday's matchup, while Hanover has a 12-6-2 mark. The winner of this championship event receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament, which will be selected on Monday.
Junior Ben Lyon is the regining HCAC Player of the Week after scoring two goals with one assist in last week's two matches. Lyon leads the team with seven goals and 19 points. Austin Webb has also tallied a 19 point total with eight goals. Alex Jansen closely follows with seven goals, and Dieter Schultz leads the squad with seven assists.
Defensively, Rose-Hulman has recorded nine shutouts this season. Sophomore goalkeeper Carter Wright is 10-1-4 with a 0.75 goals against average, and sophomore Michael Lawrence has a 3-1 mark with a 0.75 GAA.
Enrico Franchini leads the Hanover offense with 15 goals and 31 points. Dominic Isadore ranks second on the team with seven goals, four assists, and 18 points. The Panthers finished 7-0-2 in conference play and went 3-0-2 down the stretch to maintain their postseason tournament bid.
Admission to the match, set by the HCAC, is $8 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and students, and free for children under the age of 11 years old. All students, faculty, and staff members from both conference schools will receive free admission by showing their college ID.
Rose-Hulman looks for its third consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament, while Hanover seeks its first. The Fightin' Engineers have made NCAA Tournament appearances in 2008, 2011, 2013 and 2014 under coach Sean Helliwell.
