TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team looks to string its win streak to seven games on Saturday, April 4, when the Fightin' Engineers host Bluffton University in a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
Rose-Hulman enters the contest with a 13-3 record including a 2-0 mark in HCAC competition. The Engineers used walk-off hits to sweep the conference opening doubleheader with Defiance 3-2 and 4-3 last Saturday. The Engineers most recently swept Blackburn winning 14-2 and 10-0 in five innings last Sunday. Freshman Jenny Miller and senior Carly Heibel notched their first victories over the season on the mound. Offensively, Hiebel finished 5-8 with five RBI while Miller added 3-6 with three RBI and three walks. In addition, senior Jessica Ahlborn hit her first home run of the season in game two en route to a 3-8 day from the batter's box.
On the season, Heibel, Miller, and junior Jett Bender are the three Engineers batting over a .400 clip. Miller leads the squad with four home runs, 13 walks, and an on base percentage of .586. Heibel has a team-high 19 RBI through 16 games.
Heibel, Miller, and junior Marissa Stout all have ERAs under 2.00 while junior Taylor Lockhart is 5-1 on the year with a 2.18 ERA.
Bluffton comes into the contest with an 11-12 record and an 0-2 mark in HCAC competition. The Beavers dropped a doubleheader at Transylvania on March 29 but rebounded with a sweep of Olivet on April 1.
The Beavers have won three of the last four over Rose-Hulman, but the Engineers' victory came in the 2014 HCAC Tournament on a walk-off homerun from Chris Rollins.
After the series with Bluffton, Rose-Hulman travels to Greenville on Tuesday, April 7 for a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
