TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology returns to the softball diamond for a non-conference doubleheader against Webster University on Thursday starting at 5:30 p.m.
Rose-Hulman stands 17-11 overall with three starters hitting over the .300 mark. Freshman Jenny Miller leads the offense at .388 with nine doubles and five home runs. Senior Carly Heibel has a .367 batting average with 10 doubles and three home runs, and junior Jett Bender is hitting .347 with two triples and two stolen bases.
The Fightin' Engineers have blasted 14 home runs this season to help propel the offense. Miller leads the team with five home runs, Heibel has three, junior Marissa Stout has two and freshman Michelle Korf also had two round trippers.
The pitching staff has included a 7-4 record for junior Taylor Lockhart and a 6-2 mark for Stout. Miller is 2-4 with a 2.50 ERA, and Heibel stands 2-1 with a 2.14 ERA.
Webster stands 10-21 on the season and 8-10 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play entering Thursday's matchup. Kaylyn DeCock leads the offense at .414 with nine doubles and two home runs. Erin MCGinnis also bats .392 for a squad that features nine different players hitting over .300. Alexis Spriggs (4-5) and Paige Prather (4-1) have the top records on the pitching staff entering the matchup.
After Thursday's games, Rose-Hulman returns home for Senior Day on Saturday. The 1 p.m. doubleheader features a key matchup against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Mount St. Joseph as the Fightin' Engineers look to qualify for next week's four-team league tournament.
