TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology softball team looks to return to winning ways as the Fightin' Engineers travel to Transylvania University for a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 11.
Rose-Hulman comes into the contest with a 13-5 record overall including a 2-2 mark in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play. The Engineers got off to a 7-3 start on their spring trip to Clermont, Fla., and won their first six games in the Midwest. Rose-Hulman most recently dropped a doubleheader to Bluffton last Saturday.
Freshman Jenny Miller and senior Carly Heibel enter the doubleheader as the two Engineers who hit at least the .400 clip on the season. Miller hits a .431 clip, slugs .804, and reaches base 55 percent of her at bats. Heibel hits exactly .400 for the season and leads the team with 19 RBI.
Rose-Hulman's three main pitchers all carry earned run averages (ERA) under 3.00. Juniors Marissa Stout and Taylor Lockhart have both pitched over 35 innings and have ERAs of 2.69 and 2.81 respectively while Miller has pitched 24 innings and carries a 2.33 ERA. In addition, Stout and Lockhart have combined for 11 wins on the season.
Transylvania comes into the game with an even 11-11 record. The Pioneers are atop the HCAC standings with a 4-0 mark having swept doubleheaders over Defiance and Bluffton.
After the doubleheader with Transylvania, Rose-Hulman plays a non-conference doubleheader against Spalding on Sunday, April 12. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
