TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology hosts its second Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup of the season with a home doubleheader against Transylvania University on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Engineer Softball Field.
The Fightin' Engineers are 10-8 overall and 1-1 in HCAC play, while Transylvania is 15-10 overall and 7-1 in league games.
Rose-Hulman enters the twinbill with the top rated pitching performance in the league so far this spring. The team has a 2.39 earned run average, led by Taylor Lockhart (6-2, 1.38) and Jenny Miller (3-1, 2.40).
Jessica Will leads the offense at .371 with five doubles and two home runs. Miller stands at .367with four home runs, with Gabbi Markison (.309) and Morgan Dreyer (.333, 2 HR) also over the .300 mark. Marissa Stout (.275, 2 HR) and Maddie Struble (.298, 2 HR) also have multiple home runs so far this season.
Transylvania features an offense batting .343 with 14 home runs, led by Krista DeBurger with six round trippers and a .400 batting average. Brittany Mumford leads the team at .494, with Shelby Bailey hitting .369. Six pitchers have combined for a 2.81 earned run average, led by Jenna Stiles (8-7, 2.03) and Jamie Lutes (6-2, 2.91).
After Saturday's games, Rose-Hulman returns to action at Bluffton University in a road doubleheader this Sunday at 1 p.m.
