TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology hits the road for its third and final regular season matchup against Anderson University on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.
Rose-Hulman has defeated the Ravens twice this season, by a 12-4 margin at Art Nehf Field on March 29 and by a 9-5 margin at Victory Field in Indianapolis on April 4. The Fightin' Engineers hold a one-game lead in the HCAC standings at 14-5, just ahead of 13-6 Earlham.
The Rose-Hulman offense features five players currently hitting above the .300 mark. Zach Trusk leads the team at .405 with 12 doubles and one home run. David Burnside stands at .403 with 10 doubles and a team-high six home runs, and Brian Thomas ranks third among the team's starting lineup at .333 with eight doubles and five home runs.
Other offensive leaders include Conner Shipley (.328, 5 2B, 1 3B), Ryan Stachowski (.321, 6 2B), Davis Robeson (.296, 3 2B, 1 3B) and Drew Schnitz (.289, 2 2B, 1 HR).
On the mound, Rose-Hulman has primarily used four starting pitchers this season. Luke Buehler (2-1, 4.17), Ian Grant (2-3, 4.68), Cody Sunderhaus (1-2, 4.74) and Jonathan Banks (2-1, 5.40) have combined to start 30 of the team's 32 games. Clayton Mayfield (3-2, 2.00, 3 saves) has emerged as the closer, with significant relief help from Stone Brogan (2-0, 2.60) and Chuck Alexa (3-4, 6.43).
Anderson stands 13-19 overall and 7-12 in conference play. Augdan Wilson leads the offense with a .339 average, seven doubles and one triple. Austin Cain (.337), Branton Sanders (.322), Hunter Cornelius (.314) and Wil Davis (.314) are also over .300 so far this season.
The Ravens pitching staff has been led by Tucker Waddups (3-2, 2.03), Nick Jones (1-2, 4.82) and Kennedy Parker (2-2, 6.66). Casey Howell (0-2, 4.91) and Jordan May (1-0, 6.11) have provided depth.
Rose-Hulman leads Anderson 17-10 in HCAC baseball action since joining the league in 2007. The Fightin' Engineers have won three straight in the series, with the last loss coming at Anderson in the 2015 HCAC Tournament.
After Tuesday's game, Rose-Hulman will travel to Manchester University for a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday. Manchester currently sits third in the HCAC standings, two games behind Rose-Hulman and one game behind Earlham.
