TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology track and field teams will look to repeat as men's and women's champions at the HCAC Outdoor Championships on Friday and Saturday at Mount St. Joseph.

Rose-Hulman News & Notes:

  • Rose-Hulman is ranked No. 6 in the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region Rankings for men's track and field this week.  Otterbein leads the regional rankings, followed by John Carroll, Mount Union, Calvin, Rose-Hulman, Case Western Reserve and Wabash.
  • The Rose-Hulman women's squad stands No. 20 in the current NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region rankings.
  • In the HCAC pre-championship poll released Thursday, the Rose-Hulman men were unanimously selected as favorites to win the league title.  The women were also selected as favorites, with 94 poll points and 5 first-place votes, just ahead of Hanover (91 with 4 first-place votes) and Manchester (78 with 1 first place vote). 
  • Eric Fiacable was named HCAC Field Athlete of the Week after winning the discus, hammer and shot put at the Indiana D-III Championships last week.
  • HCAC Athletes of the Week during the outdoor season include Eric Fiacable (2X field); Nick Palmer (field); Trey Sykes (field); and Noah Thomas (2X track).
  • Individuals currently ranking in the top 25 of NCAA Division III outdoor performances this season include: Eric Fiacable (#9 men's hammer 193' 2"); Nick Palmer (#26 men's pole vault 15' 3"); Dara Smith (#13 women's high jump 5' 5"); Nathan Schrader (#12 men's javelin 196' 1"); and Trey Sykes (#14 men's triple jump 47' 0 1/4")
  • Individuals currently ranking in the top 5 of the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region this season include: Eric Fiacable (#3 hammer); Nick Palmer (#2 pole vault); Cameron Prisby (#5 pole vault); Nathan Schrader (#1 javelin); Mary-Helen Shomba (#5 100 hurdles); Dara Smith (#3 high jump); and Trey Sykes (#2 triple jump).
  • Rose-Hulman has won the team title at 20 consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's track and field championship events.  The Fightin' Engineers have 11 straight Outdoor titles and 9 straight Indoor championships.
  • Rose-Hulman has also won the team title at the last three HCAC women's track and field championship events.  The Fightin' Engineers won the 2018 and 2019 HCAC Indoor titles and are the reigning 2018 Outdoor champions.
