TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team will open its 2019 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule with a home doubleheader against Manchester on Saturday at noon. The Fightin' Engineers then hit the road for Wabash College on Sunday at noon for a doubleheader.
Rose-Hulman (10-6, 0-0 HCAC) News & Notes:
- Rose-Hulman enters HCAC play with a 10-6 overall record.
- Luke Buehler is a two-time HCAC Pitcher of the Week and one-time D3baseball.com National Team of the Week honoree in 2019. Buehler is currently 3-0 with a 0.74 earned run average, including 24 strikeouts in 24.1 innings of work.
- The team's four primary starting pitchers have also included Trevor Dallio (0-2, 4.87, 23 K, 20.1 IP), Trever Bruno (0-2, 6.89, 6 K, 15.2 IP) and Clayton Mayfield (1-1, 7.06, 17 K, 21.2 IP)
- Rose-Hulman's bullpen features four pitchers with at least one save, led by freshman Adam Taylor with two saves.
- Zach Witonsky (.667) and Brian Pershing (.591) have emerged as key hitters in the Rose-Hulman lineup. Witonsky has appeared in nine games with six hits, while Pershing is 13-22 in 11 games and six starts.
- Starters hitting above .300 include Josh Mesenbrink (.370, 5 2B); Conner Helbling (.368, 5 2B, 1 HR); Harris Camp (.324, 2 2B, 1 3B); Davis Robeson (.322, 1 2B); and Luke Kluemper (.303).
- Rose-Hulman has won four HCAC Tournament titles, two regular season HCAC championships and made two appearances in the NCAA Division III Regional Championship Round since 2009.
Manchester (7-14, 2-0 HCAC) News & Notes:
- Manchester swept Anderson 6-5 and 14-2 to open its HCAC schedule on Tuesday.
- The Spartans have won six HCAC regular season championships, six HCAC Tournament titles and made two trips to the NCAA Division III World Series since 1999.
Wabash (10-9, 0-2 NCAC) News & Notes:
- Wabash faces Kenyon in an NCAC doubleheader on Saturday before hosting Rose-Hulman on Sunday.
- The Little Giants finished 32-17 last season and reached the NCAA Division III Regional Championship round in 2018.
