HANOVER, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's track and field team picked up a victory at the Hanover Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The Fightin' Engineers narrowly topped Hanover 116-109 for top honors. Manchester came home third with 96 points and Franklin scored 20 points on the day.
Rose-Hulman won six events and brought home nine second-place finishes on the afternoon.
Nosa Igiehon led the way with three victories, claiming top honors in the high jump (5' 1 1/4"); triple jump (35' 7 3/4"); and 100-hurdles (16.16).
Other event winners included
Lois Cheatham in the 400 (1:02.05);
Kaia Johnson in the 10,000 (41:14.20); and the 4-x-400 meter relay team of
Emily Peterson,
Dara Smith,
Madison Lindfelt and Cheatham in 4:21.02.
Cassie Utley provided key points with three runner-up finishes in throwing events. Utley came home second in the javelin (105' 9"); discus (115' 3"); and shot put (34' 1 1/2").
Rofiat Adeyemi and
Adekite Oladipupo contributed two second-place performances each. Adeyemi was second in the long jump (15' 8 3/4") and triple jump (32' 10 1/2"), while Oladipupo was second in both the 100 (13.66) and 200 (28.31) dash events.
Other second place performers included
Claire Perkins in the pole vault (9' 9") and Smith in the 400 (1:02.74).
Rose-Hulman returns to action at the Wabash Invitational next weekend. Today's team victory marked Rose-Hulman's seventh team win in nine meets this season.
