TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's indoor track and field team has been picked as the preseason favorites in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championship this winter, in the coaches preseason poll released by the league office on Friday morning.
The Fightin' Engineers picked up a league-high 6 first-place votes and earned 78 poll points, narrowly edging out Manchester who finished with 4 first-place votes and 72 poll points.
The Hanover Panthers sit in the third spot with 60 points, and Berea and Franklin came in just one point apart with the Mountaineers in fourth with 50 points and the Grizzlies in fifth with 49 points.
Anderson (42), Bluffton (40), Transylvania (25), Mount St. Joseph (24), and Earlham (10) rounded out the remainder of the poll.
Rose-Hulman returns five student-athletes who finished in the top-3 of the indoor track and field championships last season including
James Kaunas (3rd in Triple Jump),Â
Kolton Nanko (1st in Pole Vault),
Andrew Shields (400m),Â
Thomas Tullius (3rd in 5000m), and
Colin Welsh (3rd in Pole Vault).
The team will open the 2025 season on Saturday, December 7 as they travel to Wittenberg for the Tiger Opener in Springfield, Ohio.
