TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's volleyball team looks to win its fourth consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) match Wednesday, Oct. 22, when the Earlham Quakers come to Hulbert Arena for a 7 p.m. match.
The Fightin' Engineers carry a 12-14 record including a 3-2 record in HCAC play into the matchup with Earlham. Rose-Hulman began HCAC play with losses to Franklin and Mount St. Joseph, but has responded with wins over Anderson, Hanover, and Transylvania.
In Rose-Hulman's most recent victory over the Pioneers of Transylvania, the Engineers totaled double-digit in blocks for just the sixth time this season. Individually, the two middle hitters continue to lead Rose-Hulman with sophomore Emily McLendon totaling 96 blocks. Freshman Mackenzie Gossard is second on the squad with 68.
Team defense was the key to Rose-Hulman's victory over Transylvania and freshman libero Gabi Razma led the way in the back row with 27 digs. The Durango, Colo., native has totaled 557 digs through 98 sets of play for an average of 5.68 digs per set. As of last week, Razma ranked fifth in all of NCAA III Women's Volleyball in the category.
Offensively, Rose-Hulman's two primary setters, junior Sarah Jensen and sophomore Morgan Dreyer, lead the Engineers in kills and assists. Jensen leads the team in assists (423) and is second on the team in kills (166) while Dreyer leads the team in kills (177) and is second on the team in assists (389).
The match with Earlham is also senior day for Briana Harvey, the program's lone senior. Harvey, who has been a member of the program for four years, has been in the starting lineup for much of this season. The Clinton, Ind., native has recorded 150 kills this season as well as 308 digs.
Earlham comes into the contest with a 4-19 record overall including an 0-6 mark in HCAC play. The Quakers most recently fell to Manchester in straight sets.
After the match with Earlham, Rose-Hulman travels to the state of Ohio for two weekend matches. The Engineers face off against Bluffton at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25 and Defiance at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26.
