HCAC TOURNAMENT MEDIA NOTES
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology hosts Earlham College in the semifinal round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Engineer Intramural Field.
Rose-Hulman won a share of its fifth HCAC regular season championship since 2008 by finishing 7-0-2 in conference play. The Fightin' Engineers have won two consecutive matches and have a streak of 12 straight matches without a loss entering the HCAC Tournament.
Rose-Hulman stands 12-2-4 overall entering the four-team conference tournament, while Earlham has a 9-6-1 mark. The winner of Tuesday's semifinal match will face either Hanover College or Transylvania University on Saturday in the championship game. The winner of the four-team event receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Junior Ben Lyon is the regining HCAC Player of the Week after scoring two goals with one assist in last week's two matches. Lyon leads the team with seven goals and 19 points. Alex Jansen and Austin Webb have also scored seven goals each, and Dieter Schultz leads the squad with seven assists.
Defensively, Rose-Hulman has recorded eight shutouts this season. Sophomore goalkeeper Carter Wright is 9-1-4 with a 0.81 goals against average, and sophomore Michael Lawrence has a 3-1 mark with a 0.75 GAA.
Nicholas Dey leads the Earlham offense with 10 goals and 21 points. Jacob Ebbs ranks second on the team with five goals and 13 points. The Quakers finished 6-2-1 in conference play and went 5-0-1 down the stretch to earn a postseason tournament bid.
Admission to the match, set by the HCAC, is $8 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and students, and free for children under the age of 11 years old. All students, faculty, and staff members from both conference schools will receive free admission by showing their college ID.
Rose-Hulman looks for its third consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament, while Earlham seeks its first since 1998. The Fightin' Engineers have made NCAA Tournament appearances in 2008, 2011, 2013 and 2014 under coach Sean Helliwell.
