TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology hits the road for Franklin College and a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference in-state baseball matchup on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Rose-Hulman stands 10-7 overall and 5-2 in HCAC play for second place in the current league standings. The Fightin' Engineers won two-of-three games over Manchester and Defiance over the past two weekends, and defeated Franklin 7-1 last Tuesday.
Junior Caleb Kissel leads the Fightin' Engineers in batting average at .400, hits with 26 and doubles with five. He also has a .467 on-base average for the season. Junior Patrick Klima has added a .387 batting average with three doubles, one triple and one home run.
Rose-Hulman relied on a season-best offensive performance to sweep Sunday's doubleheader against Manchester. The Fightin' Engineers scored 13 runs in each contest to improve to 10-7 on the season.
The pitching staff has compiled an impressive 2.82 earned run average on the season. Karson Nixon (1-1, 1.14 ERA) and Andrew Stull (2-3, 1.50) have led the starting rotation, with multiple starts also recorded by R.J. Carroll (3-1, 4.97) and freshman Joey Callahan (2-2, 4.96). Junior Alec McNally has added a win and two saves in five appearances.
Franklin has an 8-11 record and a 1-6 conference mark entering Monday's non-conference matchup at Thomas More. Jameson Brock leads the Grizzlies offense at .400 with 32 hits and 20 runs scored. Mitch Frey has added a .342 average with 26 hits and four doubles.
The pitching staff has compiled a 4.71 ERA, led by Justin Brown (2-0, 2.86) and Christian Sullivan (2-1, 3.46). Hayden Cleveland leads the staff with 22 strikeouts in 25.2 innings of work.
After Tuesday's game, Rose-Hulman returns to action with a three-game Senior Weekend home series against Transylvania University on Friday and Saturday.
