TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology returns to home for the third and final mid-week baseball matchup against Franklin College on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Art Nehf Field.
The Fightin' Engineers stand 14-11 overall and 9-6 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while Franklin has a mark of 12-15 and 5-9 in league games. Rose-Hulman currently stands fourth in the HCAC standings, just one game behind three teams tied for first, and four teams will ultimately qualify for the HCAC Tournament on May 7-9.
Rose-Hulman tied a season-high with 13 runs in its most recent game at Hanover on Saturday. Sophomore Kevin Jendra leads the offense with a .385 batting average on 20 hits and five doubles. Junior Caleb Kissel stands .371 with 36 hits and five doubles, while sophomore Drew Schnitz has a .359 average with 14 hits and four extra-base hits.
Other batters over .300 include Nevin Fansher (.341), Patrick Klima (.319), Hazen Hamather (.310) and Josh Koutnik (.300). Kody Alayon also stands at .298 with a team-high 11 stolen bases.
The Rose-Hulman pitching staff has a conference leading 3.06 earned run average and 148 strikeouts in 220.2 innings of work.
Franklin features a lineup with four players above the .300 mark, led by Mitch Frey at .396 with 10 doubles. Jameson Brock has a .381 average, and Chase Steinbrunner enters the day with a .321 mark.
The Franklin pitching staff comes in with a 5.25 earned run average with 152 strikeouts in 233 innings of work.
The two teams meet for the third time this season after splitting the first two games. Rose-Hulman won at home 7-1, and the Grizzlies won an extra-inning thriller 9-8 in their home ballpark on March 31.
After Tuesday's matchup, Rose-Hulman returns home on Thursday to face DePauw University at 7 p.m.
