TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology baseball team returns to non-conference action with a matchup against DePauw University tonight at 7 p.m. at Art Nehf Field.
The Fightin' Engineers stand 14-12 overall entering Thursday's matchup, while DePauw has an overall record of 11-15.
Rose-Hulman and DePauw will face off for the first time since the 2014 NCAA Division III Tournament, when the Fightin' Engineers picked up a 1-0 victory to advance to the NCAA Central Regional Championship Round. The game is the first of two meetings, as Rose-Hulman will also host DePauw on Wednesday April 29.
Sophomore Kevin Jendra and junior Caleb Kissel lead the Fightin' Engineer lineup with a .370 batting average. Jendra has five doubles among 20 hits, and Kissel had 37 hits, five doubles and one home run. Junior Nevin Fansher (.326, 1 HR) and sophomore Drew Schnitz (.326, 3 2B, 1 3B) are next in batting average among eight players currently hitting .300 or better.
Rose-Hulman continues to lead the HCAC in pitching earned run average at 3.13. The staff has struck out 157 hitters in 229.2 innings of work.
Lucas Italiano and Reid Pittard lead the DePauw batting order with averages of .344 and .311, resepctively. The Tigers have 12 home runs as a team, led by Italiano with three round trippers.
The DePauw pitching staff has recorded 162 strikeouts and a 4.94 team earned run average in 217 innings of work, after sweeping Wednesday's doubleheader at Wittenberg.
After tonight's game, Rose-Hulman hits the road for a three-game series at HCAC co-leader Earlham College on Saturday and Sunday.
