Baseball Team Hosts Anderson on Tuesday at 6

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology returns home for a key matchup against Anderson University in a showdown of two top Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball programs on Tuesday night at 6 p.m.

Anderson is tied for the conference lead with Bluffton University at 12-7 in league play.  Rose-Hulman joins Earlham at 11-7 in league games, just one-half game behind the conference lead.  Manchester stands fifth at 10-8, and the top four teams will qualify for the HCAC Tournament set for May 7-9.

Rose-Hulman stands 17-12 overall after sweeping a doubleheader over Earlham on Saturday.  Junior Caleb Kissel leads the team in hitting at .360 with 41 hits, six doubles and 22 RBIs.  Sophomore Kevin Jendra stands .351 with five doubles, and junior Hazen Hamather has a .343 batting average and one home run this spring.

Four more Engineers are batting over the .300 mark for an offensive squad that is batting .298 so far this spring. 

Rose-Hulman continues to lead the HCAC in pitching with a 3.09 team earned run average.  Andrew Stull (2-5, 3.06), Karson Nixon (4-1, 0.81) and R.J. Carroll (4-1, 3.26) have served as the weekend rotation, with Joey Callahan (3-3, 3.86) also seeing five starts.  Junior Alec McNally has led the bullpen with a 1-1 record, a 0.71 earned run average and five saves.

Anderson stands 20-10 overall and 12-7 in league play entering Tuesday's matchup.  Cole Heberling leads the offense at .392 with nine doubles.  Zack Hufferd has a .358 average with eight home runs and 41 RBIs.  Jake Craft adds a .355 average with 12 doubles and four home runs.

Ben Yoder leads the pitching staff with a 4-0 record and a 2.77 earned run average.  Other starters this season have included Cameron Dotson (2-2, 3.18), Jake Eaton (3-1, 4.46) and Cody Brock (3-3, 5.55).  Closer Nicholas Nunez is 2-2 with three saves and 29 strikeouts in 15.2 innings of work.

After Tuesday's game, Rose-Hulman hosts Greenville in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
